The Liberalist Centre, a pro-freedom think tank advancing liberty and prosperity across Africa, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2026 Africa Liberty Award.
Organised by Atlas Network as part of its regional liberty awards, the prize recognises outstanding organisations that promote individual liberty and economic freedom across the African continent.
The Centre earned its spot among the finalists through its Journalism for Liberty Fellowship (JLF) Project. Launched in 2022, the JFL focuses on rigorous training of African journalists to report on free markets, individual freedom, limited government, and regional prosperity.
The training initiative covers pro-freedom reporting, the principles and values of liberty, investigative journalism, and the art of storytelling.
Commending the contributions of the Centre and other nominees, Brad Lips, the CEO of Atlas Network, said, “this year’s finalists are tackling some of their countries’ most pressing challenges, from burdensome taxation and excessive regulation to weak institutions and misconceptions about free markets.”
He added that,“through rigorous research, strategic advocacy, and coalition-building, they are expanding economic freedom, strengthening accountable governance, and creating greater opportunities for entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens alike. Their work is a powerful reminder that principled leadership and persistent, locally-driven reform, can improve lives and help build freer, more prosperous societies.”
Other organisations nominated for the award include the Centre for Development and Enterprises Great Lakes in Burundi and the Eastern Caucus in Zimbabwe.
Atlas Network will announce the winner next weekend on 31st July, at the Africa Liberty Forum in Accra, Ghana.
