Recent and consistent attacks on media professionals in Nigeria is creating doubt for young aspiring journalists to pursue a career in journalism. Many said they now feel uninspired and uncomfortable writing stories that could hold those in power accountable; because doing so might put them at risk of abduction or detention.
Young journalists and media experts said the rising threats and arrests of journalists have created a culture of fear, deterring many aspiring journalists from pursuing their dreams. This trend is now having serious implications for press freedom and the ability of citizens to access information in the country.

Tax is Not a Solution to a Country’s Debt
Meanwhile, in Kenya, weeks of protest and agitation sparked by an increment in taxes left several people dead and scores injured. Though Kenyan President William Ruto has now withdrawn his assent, experts believe that more taxes provide no sustainable solution to the country’s problem. In agreement with the protesters, fiscal professionals say history teaches no country can reasonably tax itself to success.
Experts submitted that any further tax imposition could have unintended consequences on the citizens, including deepening poverty and stifling the country’s economic growth.
